Jugo – Companion for Virtual Events

Jugo Spaces is a native iOS companion app designed to enhance virtual meetings and events. The app works alongside the web platform and iPad experience, providing a focused, mobile-first interface that supports presenters and participants during live sessions. The goal was to create a smooth, fully native experience for iPhone and iPad while maintaining consistency with Jugo’s design system and broader product ecosystem.

The Challenge

The main challenge was designing a true companion experience rather than a simplified replica of the web platform.

The app needed to:

  • feel fully native on iOS
  • support seamless interaction between iPhone and iPad
  • remain aligned with the existing web product
  • handle different modes such as presenter view and remote control
  • adapt fluidly between portrait and landscape orientations

Balancing cross-platform consistency with platform-native behaviour was central to the work.

My Role

I led the UX and UI design of the native iOS app from early concept through to delivery. This included defining interaction patterns, designing responsive layouts for both iPhone and iPad, prototyping animations and transitions, and collaborating closely with developers to ensure accurate implementation.

I also supported user testing and refined flows based on feedback as the product matured.

The Solution

The app was designed as a lightweight but powerful companion to the iPad experience.

Rather than duplicating functionality, the iPhone version acted as a simplified remote interface, allowing users to manage presentations, switch modes, and control sessions with minimal friction. The iPad version provided richer views for monitoring and engagement.

I aligned the interface with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines while maintaining Jugo’s brand identity. Native components and animations were used intentionally to ensure the app felt familiar and fluid within the iOS ecosystem.

Figma prototypes were used extensively to communicate motion, transitions, and interaction states to developers, ensuring clarity during implementation.

The design was built with scalability in mind, allowing for future features and platform expansion.

Project Impact & Reflection

The app was delivered within a relatively short timeframe and resulted in a fully functional, polished native product. The cross-team collaboration and rapid iteration strengthened my approach to mobile design, particularly in understanding how to design for real device constraints and behaviours.

Although the company later shifted direction, the product itself demonstrated how a companion app can enhance live digital experiences through thoughtful, platform-aware design.
